Blizz Face

Blizz face is the expression Nicki and I wear on our faces...  It's the look you get after a day that started out with a snow report saying 10 INCHES of fresh POW fell over night and over the course of the day it dumps harder than the night before.  You basically skied in a powdery cloud all day with perfect company - a blizzard of bliss with your friends!

I planned on taking photos during the ski - but there was just too much damn snow.  Blizz Face :)

Holt Renfrew, More Ironic Than a Hipster

I walked by this window display today on my way to return some library books on my lunch break.  By the time I walked the length of the display I was aware of the seemingly 'homeless look' display - which would be outrageously funny for Holt Renfrew chic, since this is downtown Vancouver we're talking about and there are homeless people everywhere that cannot afford one single item in the display.

This display was titled "things I can't live without" and had different things people apparently can't live without... In this instance, the mannequin can't live without consuming 2 garbage bags worth of diet coke cans. I'm willing to bet that whoever put this display together most certainly did not drink all that pop and put it in those bags...  The cans were all clean and had obviously never seen a recycle bin.  No, it was probably done all at once by some employee (who can live without diet coke) and poured it all down the drain so it could look like this mannequin really likes drinking diet coke in a $400 hippy shirt and $500 pants.

Pretty sure I can live without that and whatever silly message this is supposed to be sending.

The Talent

Can I get a mechanic around here??  You sure can - for a flat of beer!  Brother swoops in with the talent at the opportune moment and saves me $200.  Golden!

Run of the Day

CBC trees with 25 fresh overnight and over a metre and a half over the week = EPIC!  Victoria and I share this privilege more than once today, it's a run worth doing laps on :)

Apocalypse Mission

Thursday night drive to the snow.  The 2 hour drive took 4.5 hours.  Cars sliding everywhere, slush, snow - mayhem!  Everybody knows though that mayhem on the road means heaven on the hill :)

Bambi!

Little Miss Bambi-Caught-in-the-Headlights.  My favorite thing about this picture is the way Tara curls her fingers daintily at the shock of the camera flash (or to be fair, series of flashes).  She also does this funny delayed reaction shudder-jolt after the flash goes - every time!  So funny!  Baby love, ma baby love... So hard to pick just ONE picture :)

Rat Race Lunch

Lunch out with some co-workers at the best little Indian food place in town.  These guys are great because they like playing bocci or croquet at lunch when the weather is nice :)

Bake Sale Birdy

A talented unknown colleague contributes 'angry bird' cupcakes to the Valentine's Day bake sale fundraiser on the 7th floor.  He appears half buried, I guess that's why he's angry?  Either way, this delectable morsel lures me into abandoning my wheat-free ways in favour of biting his head off...  Eat me! Eat me!

It was worth it.

Public Confession Reflection

I need to be more brave.  The photos I want will not allow me to be lackadaisical.  They demand gumption. And sometimes inconvenience.  Possibly angry subjects.

Also, more portraits and macro.  I love candid, but this project is a means to becoming a better photographer at different genres. Portraits and macro - not the nice kind, the interesting kind.

Today I had big plans of posting a photo of my ankle CT.  Alas, you need a media agreement to take photos inside the radiology department of the UBC hospital...  Too bad.  Instead I took this photo of my alternate transport to and from work (so I could squeeze the appointment over my lunch hour).  When you think about taking photos every day, a new way home does seem less than regular.

Turns out the best Sunday of the season to go skiing at Hollyburn is Superbowl Sunday - Ha! Those couchgoers have no idea what they missed.  Alright, they were probably drier than Andrea and I, but we had more fun :)
